ABOUT US

Baltic Institute for Ecology of Hydrosphere (BIEH) was established in 1991 by the leading scientists of the Atlantic Branch of the Institute of Oceanology of Russian Academy of Sciences. The main objective of establishment is an extension of scientific activities to cover practical aspects of physical, hydrological, sedimentological, geomorphological, geological and biological components of coastal system studies. The basic directions of research are: integrative studies of water objects and conditions in the locations of wastewater outlets, investigation of the sea coast, documentation on the ecological condition of the territories, the analysis of bottom sediments, forming content for GIS, analysis of meteorological and hydrological characteristics, the numerical simulation of physical and chemical characteristics for marine water and terrestrial water bodies. In addition, the Institute actively participates in organizing and conducting of field expeditions and scientific conferences.
